Transition Town Bridport was formed in early 2009 and has thrived ever since. Bridport is a market town with many initiatives working towards a sustainable town. TTB works alongside these to sustain action on food, retrofitting homes, renewable energy and skills. We have three regular inputs:
- We run an edible garden at a St Mary’s primary school, with t wo polytunnels and an allotment, involving children in growing vegetables and fruits, and working with the kitchen to supply salads and other veg. We also run cookery courses and social events round the cob pizza oven, and run a glut stall to share surplus produce from our allotment and local gardeners.
- Greener Homes an initiative to showcase building and retrofitting homes and adopting low impact lifestyles. 15-20 households open t heir homes to visitors to share their vision and experience.
- Green Fortnight, which involves meetings workshops and events round a theme. These have included Shop Local, Sustainable farming and Fast Fashion.
Other than this we hold irregular meetings on circular economy, universal basic income, co-operative business, retrofitting etc. We are strongly involved in the local food group, and Dorset Community Energy. At present three of our core group are town councillors and one is a Dorset councillor.
