A “mulling” group considering the possibility of forming a “Transition Initiative” in the Greater Hartford (CT) area. We have a Yahoo group, transition_Hartford, where we list upcoming events of interest including films and discussions. We are working to identify additional individuals in the area who are interested so that we can form an active initiating group.

Our Friendly (New) Economics Group meets on the first Saturday of the month at 9:30 AM.

We are continuing our study of New Money for a New World by Bernard Lietaer and Stefan Belgin. On April 7 we will be discussing Part II Chapters 15-18. The book can be ordered directly from Qiterra Press  http://www.newmoneyforanewworld.com/   or from Amazon.

In Part II—New Money—we explore some of the many monetary tools and new economic understandings available to us to help address the issues facing our world today. The topics explored in Chapters 15-18 include:

currency designs to help address specific social concerns (Chapter Fifteen—Social-Purpose Currencies); currency designs to help meet the needs of business, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (Chapter Sixteen—Commercial-Purpose Currencies); a global reference currency design that addresses many of the limitations inherent in today’s international environment (Chapter Seventeen—The Terra, a Trade Reference Currency); the likely consequences of addressing societal conditions within the framework of the existing bank-debt monetary paradigm (Chapter Eighteen—Two Worlds). All are welcome. Please contact us if you would like to attend.
