It has been difficult finding volunteers for Kyneton Transition Hubs activities so our achievements have been restricted. We still have managed basic activities such as weekly social catch-ups and monthly stall at local farmers market.

Vision and Values

We are working together to make our community stronger, happier and more resilient as we deal with the impacts of peak oil and climate change.

We the residents of Kyneton environs care about our community, our local environment and our world. Our strengths are our diverse skills, interests and experiences as well as our friendliness and sense of community. We support a sustainable future for our community, our children and our earth. We value the contribution of each individual to our community, whatever age, ability, family status, or origin.

Background

Kyneton is a town of approximately 5000 people located in the Macedon Ranges region, just over an hour north-west of Melbourne.

The Kyneton Transition Town initiative is an outcome of the 2010 Kyneton Conference hosted by Kyneton Connections. The Kyneton Conference, attended by over 100 residents, provided opportunities to explore and present future visions for Kyneton. One of the conference outcomes was the idea of developing Kyneton into a “greener” town. Some conference participants committed to forming a working group to implement the ideas discussed as well as other ideas related to sustainability.

As a result of further meetings, the working group has decided to name the group “Kyneton Transition Hub” and follow the steps to transition as outlined in the Transition Town concept.
