Sustaining Dunbar is part of the Transition Network as well as being a Community Development Trust for the Dunbar and East Linton ward of East Lothian. Its purpose is to bring people together to plan and start creating a low carbon, locally resilient future for our community. Set up in 2007 we became a charitable company limited by guarantee with a board of directors elected from the membership in November 2008. Membership (free) is open to anyone resident in the Dunbar and East Linton ward.
We have run a wide range of projects and activities over recent years and have incubated a number of new social enterprises, most recently a waste reuse hub. Currently we are mainly focussed on bringing local people and organisations together under the umbrella of our ‘What If?’ project to create a shared vision and action plan for our locality as a “home to thriving people, where nature thrives on the land and in the sea whilst respecting the wellbeing of all people, and the health of the whole planet.” We also run a community garden in the grounds of our local hospital, organise regular member events and workshops and run a community web-platform -see more information on our website.
