Transição do Tricounty

Last Updated: 478 days ago

The Tri-County Transition group serves the Northwest corner of South Carolina. In 2008, the late mayor, Larry Abernathy, realized he needed to assemble a dedicated group to address and make recommendations to the City of Clemson regarding environmental issues and climate change. Many of those on the mayor’s Green Ribbon Committee were familiar with the mission of Transition and while this helped to guide their efforts, there was not yet a solid group focused solely on Transition.

In 2010, a small group began to gather for coffee every month or so, to discuss ways to bring more folks in the Upstate into the conversation about community resilience, climate change and peak oil. Several potlucks were held and eventually a Steering Committee was set up in 2011. We have expanded to areas beyond Clemson, and now include the counties of Anderson, Oconee and Pickens.  As of 2013 we are continuing to meet. We are working together on a number of projects including a local “Green Energy” tour.

Our mission is to create awareness about community resilience and foster a sustainable living environment. By creating connectionsbetween already existing groups working on these issues, our goal is to transform and transition Upstate South Carolina to a thriving and low-carbon future.
