Transition Los Angeles is a “city hub” which facilitates communication between the many Transition initiatives throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

We have several local initiatives (we call them “pods”) in various stages of development, from official Transition Initiatives to enthusiastic initiators still gathering their steering groups.

The city hub coordinates outreach and networking, provides a central contact, supports new neighborhood pods, and offers ongoing leadership education.  On-the-ground Transition action — such as reskilling classes, physical projects, and more — takes place at the local pods or neighborhoods level.

Due to the magnitude of Transition activity going on in Los Angeles it is impossible to display and maintain it all on this international Transition Network website.  Thus you will need to hop to our local online materials:

The Los Angeles area has a population of approximately 10 million people, which makes it the largest city in the Western United States.  Metropolitan Los Angeles spans over 4,850 sq. mi (12,562 km²), with more than 88 incorporated cities, yet the geography within the LA basin is such that one urban neighborhood runs continuously into the next with little demarcation beyond a change in the color of the street signs.  One of our first Transition issues has been one of scoping and redefining what “local” might mean within this context.

Transition Los Angeles was founded in December 2008.  As of Autumn 2009, there were approximately 1,200 people on our combined Transition mailing lists.
